    Elizabeth Schumacher, JD Greenwell Director

Elizabeth transforms patient advocacy from polite suggestion to unstoppable force. As a four-time kidney transplant recipient and Chief Patient Officer of Greenwell Project, she’s spent decades on organ transplantation boards (UNOS, TRIO, NKF) and most recently served on the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) OPTN Board overseeing all organ transplant regulations—positions where she doesn’t just advocate for patients, she rewrites the rules that govern their care. From her work with the CDC’s Making Dialysis Safer Coalition to mentoring caregivers supporting family members with the same terminal cancer her mother faced through Imerman Angels, Elizabeth has built a career on unrelenting pushes to improve patient outcomes through systematic change. Through Greenwell, she’s leading the critical connection between environmental sustainability and patient wellbeing—because when supply chains collapse, power grids fail, or extreme weather disrupts healthcare delivery, it’s vulnerable patients who pay the ultimate price. Elizabeth’s approach is powered by lived experience: successful patient representation isn’t about being heard, it’s about being impossible to ignore until real change happens.
